DAGGA IN AN ALARMING PROBLEM
_public intervention
Performed at the opening of the Johannesburg Biennale (themed Trade routes), in one of the exhibition spaces in Newtown, and, later, at the Rosebank Mall.
Cohen meticulously glued 4.5kg of dagga stems and pips to the costume. Cohen’s costumes require painstaking and laborious con-struction; his often gruelling performances demand stamina and determination. In this piece, Cohen was dressed in a marijuana-beaded corset with a glittering Hindu bindi on his penis.
He set off an ear-piercing alarm each time he puffed on a thick joint.
